Join us to welcome the beginning of summer, the season of light and growth!
This year's Summer Solstice Celebration is all about pollinators. Pollinators like birds, bees, bats, butterflies, and even beetles are essential to life on our planet, from forests and meadows to farms and gardens.
All around our historic farm in Portland's West Hills, you'll find pollinator plants (including NW natives) and all-ages activities with a pollinator twist!
Calling all plant lovers — East Portland's secret garden needs help to fund its future! The 17-acre Leach Botanical Garden offers "immersive, restorative, and educational experiences in a unique landscape of native plants and horticultural collections" with a mission to "build community, celebrate nature, and inspire environmental stewardship."
5% of all sales on Saturday, June 20th will be donated to LBG. We strongly encourage you consider supporting the garden through membership, monthly donations, and the admissions fee for your visit to this deeply special place.
Celebration Schedule
All Day: Pollinator Plants Galore
Explore hundreds of pollinator-friendly plants, from long-blooming perennials to Northwest Natives. 5% of sales on June 20th will be donated to the Leach Botanical Garden.
10AM to 11AM: Free Seminar: Growing the Urban Pollinator Network
Gardens don't exist in a vacuum. In fact, they're one of our best tools for direct environmental action. In a time where insect populations and biodiversity are rapidly declining, join us for a conversation about the ecological role of the gardener and how we can grow a better future together.
10AM to 12PM: Meet Our Special Guests
Leach Botanical Garden — Starting as a labor of love by naturalists John and Lilla Leach, this innovative public garden is now run by the nonprofit Leach Garden Friends. They welcoms thousands of visitors to explore four-season pollinator garden, native habitat restoration projects, and events such as 'Honeybee Hikes' for toddlers.
The Xerces Society — Based out of Portland with operations worldwide, the science-based Xerces Society is a leading invertebrate conservation organization. Their research, outreach, and advocacy draws attention to the essential role of insects in our environment.
The Nature Conservancy — Working in over 80 countries, the Nature Conservancy is one of the world's largest and most impactful environmental conservation groups.
The Portland Rose Society — Since 1889, the Portland Rose Society has helped unite rose lovers and build our local identity as the City of Roses. Their table will include an interactive look at fragrant rose varieties, a deadheading demo, and the best roses for pollinators.
10AM - 6PM: Pollinator Scavenger Hunt
Tour Cornell Farm with our Pollinator Scavenger Hunt — an all-ages activity where you'll learn about topics like native plants, bee biodiversity, and pollinator-safe pest control. Visit all the stations and then drop by our checkout counter to be entered into a drawing for a Cornell Farm gift card — plus, everyone who completes the scavenger hunt gets free chicken treats to feed our lil' flock among the flowers!
11AM to 4PM: Pollinator Crafts
The Teahouse is transforming into our craft hub, where kids of all ages can "Build-a-Bee" and try botanical solar printing while learning more about Oregon's pollinators.
4 - 6PM: Crafty Cocktail Hour
Who says adults can't have a little summer fun? At 4PM, the Pollinator Craft station transitions to a 21+ cocktail hour where you can do the same hands-on crafts with a delicious cocktail (or mocktail) in hand. Entry is free with the purchase of a drink.
