- The Oregon Zoo is proactively trying to bring back the Oregon Silverspot Butterfly, a critically endangered butterfly. Since 1980, these butterflies were known to exist in only four places in the world: one being at Cascade Head. Six years ago, the zoo in partnership with other organization worked to reintroduce them to Saddle Mountain. They rear them at the zoo and feed them Western Dog Violet, the caterpillar’s exclusive food source.
